For the amount we practiced, I think Jack and I did well on our dry run presentation. Some good feedback that we got was the show the product earlier in the presentation. We had the demonstration of how SlapNap functions too late in the slide show, and the judges weren’t sure what our product was until then. Another problem we had was introducing our topics before describing them. For example, the title for our survey results slide was “Justification” and instead of saying that, I should just go straight into explaining what the surveys mean.
Advisor
Our advisor was Sarah Roth and she works at NASA, Wallops Island. We met with her a couple of times over Google Teams and she helped us a lot with problem solving. After our first prototype, we had a lot of issues with the products. She helped us think to put a pocket in the napkin to hold the silverware stable. Another issue she brought up was the size of our napkin. Mrs. Roth told us that our first napkin had too little surface are to properly clean someone’s face, so we expanded it. Her position at NASA is the Chief Technologist at the Balloon Program Office part of NASA. She graduated from the University of Akron where she studied chemical engineering. She had always loved space, but did not plan to go into the space field because of her chemical engineering major. She took a summer internship at NASA about propellant slosh dynamics, and loved it so much she got a job there.
